I recommend exporting entire years: just select the «2011» folder in GTC, right-click and export. If you have (also?) used Garmin Training Center, you can also export from there. Getting activities from Garmin Training Center If you want to tidy up a little, you can use this script to rename the files to «YYYY-MM-DD-HHMMSS-Sport.tcx» and put them in directories named «YYYY/MM». Here’s what it looks like in action:Īfter this (and some waiting) you will have lots of. If Garmin Connect is the only place you have stored your activities, I recommend disconnect.rb, a very nice Ruby script that asks for your username and password, then downloads all TCX files automatically. The original post continues below (see the comments too): The easiest way now (February 2015) is probably to set up automatic synchronization of Strava, Garmin Connect, Runkeeper, Endomondo, etc with Tapiriik: Update! This blog post was published in November 2011.
And that Strava listens to their users ( remember the «transition» to Bing maps?), constantly develop new features like the segment explorer, cropping of logs, etc – and has a very nice Strava app ( Garmin has one too, but it’s not as good, and not as free). See Garmin’s reasons for switching from Garmin Training Center to Garmin Connect, and then remember that Strava is better than Garmin Connect.

Here’s how to move all your activities to Strava – if you are able to fiddle a little with Ruby and Perl.

Lucky for us, Strava launched (see the Strava blog, and maybe also why it’s good – in Norwegian), and is now a free and much better service for both cyclists and others. This app is a simplified version of the Sportablet app, targeting mobile phones and small-screen tablets.Garmin Connect was a nice service when it launched, but then Garmin decided to focus on other things than listening to customers. Note: in-app purchases are slow, and may take a couple of minutes to be confirmed.

Once you know that it works fine with your Garmin device and Android phone/tablet, if you like what you see, you can activate it with an in-app purchase on Google Play (price is about 5 euros / 6.6 $). That way, you can test communication with the Garmin and publishing to all the supported websites. The Uploader is free to try: you can read all activities, but explore only one (from your first upload session). Some Samsung and Sony phones / tablets have a built-in ANT+ chip, if you have one you don't need the Garmin ANT+ dongle *when connecting an ANT+ Forerunner*. Other devices are reported to be working: Astro 200 and Montana.
Some eTrex, GpsMap and Oregon models are also supported. These devices are supported *with the right settings and usb-friendly phones / tablets* This feature will be gradually implemented for every device. Other than reading from your Garmin, the app can also import FIT and TCX files from sdcard, flash drives, etc.įor some Garmin models, the app can also send tracks / courses to the device (see here: ). The app can also export to GPX or save the native FIT/TCX file. Runtastic (see here for limitations: ). The Uploader for Garmin can read data from your Garmin Forerunner, Edge, eTrex, Oregon, etc, store data in your phone, save the TCX or FIT file to SD card, send activity via email, and upload to: IMPORTANT NOTE: to keep uploading to Garmin Connect, see
